Poe stood at the crest of a hill looking down on the fields that were now a part of his home with distaste and a loathing within him that he could not express through mere words alone. He was pissed. He knew his mother was acting in their best interests but right now that didn't matter. He and his mother were being forced to live here against their will all because that stupid little wretch that couldn't live without proper nutrition, it'd be better if she just died. Despite his mother's reassurances he didn't think he would ever except this accursed fate. Damn that stallion and his blasted brat of a child. All she did was get in his face and irritate him. He was more annoyed with her than afraid but she definitely didn't help his anger subside. He needed a break. He just wanted to be free of the little demon child that bound him and his mother here. He didn't care what that stallion thought he could do to them, he would be stronger than that little brat's daddy one day and then he would have to suffer the consequences of his actions, and oh how he would suffer.
He shook out his fluffy mane that was still growing out as he continued to mull over his situation. He couldn't believe that his mother was being treated as no more than a common meal. If nothing else made him angry, that, without a doubt, disturbed him the most. He hated it, he hated all of it, and he couldn't wait for it to be over. His brow deepened into a frown as he looked out over his so called home, pah! This place was suitable for dogs and hyenas, not noble equines of he and his mother's standards. They should be living in a warm cozy cove on a beach where the fresh salt air wafted through their nostrils and the grass was lush and full of flavor, not here where dust would rise from your feet at even the slightest motion because the earth was so dry that it couldn't even croak for water to sustain it. The air here was so thick that it made your throat burn to breath it in. Maybe it was all just exaggerated because of the terms of his situation but it would take a life and death matter to cause him to admit it. He paid no mind to the setting sun and the otherwise beautiful scenery of the landscape, all he could see was his turmoil and pain, and it drowned out all his other senses for he could dwell on not else.
His small frame was but a distant shadow on the distant hill top, where he knew his mother was probably watching from the tree line somewhere behind him. The sun warm against his dark hued bodice and his cranium held high. A dignified, if not a little small, being even in a time when nothing but anger and hatred was around him. He was stronger than his mother had probably ever imagined that he would be and he made her more proud than she could ever hope. But only time would tell if he would continue to please her. He had a love for his mother that he shared for no one else, a will and desire to protect her and make her proud. For now he knew he could do nothing more than watch helplessly as they were forced to linger here against their will, but for the moment he was content in knowing that he would one day bring about the destruction of the stallion who had been the cause of his torment.

Devi was growing weary of the new wet nurse that her father had chosen for her. It made her sick to even think about drinking off a light horse. But the blood was only quenching her thirst not her hunger, sooner or later she would have to feed. She was laying in the shade of a tall tree, the mare near by. The foal heard her stomach growl and she narrowed her eyes, bipping her head she got to her tiny daggers and slowly made her way over to the Wet Nurse, She pinned her ears back and shoved her head underneath Hope and began to suckle, using teeth. Once she got her fill, She moved away from the mare kicking out with her displeasure. She wondered off in search of that colt of her's.
After walking a little ways away from the tree line, she saw his small but bigger then her figure, on the crest of the hill, She picked up her pace and cantered towards him. The colt had gotten her interest, because he acted all tough and like he wasn't afraid of her, she knew he considered her a brat and that he blamed her of why they were stuck here, but he was the only other foal in the lands right now and she was feeling playful and wanting to cause trouble.
She finally reached him and slid to a stop next to him rearing up, she giggled and looked over at him with her black eyes and red pupils, "Hey Poe" she said maybe she'd try being nice, then try and see if he wanted to go stir up some trouble with her.

Nares flared as breathers took in the scent of the flicka he had come to know as Devi wandering about near by. He didn't move as he hoped she was simply wandering by and was going to pass him although something inside him knew he was wrong. He could smell her scent getting closer and closer and he inwardly sighed although his outward appearance remained unchanging. He simply continued to look out over the land as his mind fell deeper into thought roaming the darker corners of his mind as he tried to find a solution but settled on fantasizing about a life when he and his mother were no longer prisoners of a tormented land but instead were the rulers of an island on the other side of the world or perhaps even galaxies away from here. He didn't know what he was thinking of but it didn't matter because his thoughts were soon interrupted. "Hey Poe" little auds flickered as they took in the familiar lyrics. A soft snort fell from his nares as he shook out his fluffy mane before turning his gaze upon the dark hue of the little filly. "Devi." He acknowledged in turn although his lyrics went uncolored with any certain tone of discouragement or delight at her presence. He then once more turned his attention to the rolling plains below. He was slightly impressed at her approach. Normally she would simply bat her tail at him or say some snide remark, this however was perhaps the most civil meeting they had yet to have with one another, but the day was young and there was no telling why she had approached him to begin with. Without looking away from the scenery he spoke once more. "What is it you want with me today Devi?" He said in a simple monotone. He hoped she wasn't here to play mind games he was only able to tolerate so much. For the moment he remained calm, composed and strong. The foundation of his character. But he couldn't promise to remain so well composed for long if she was here to taunt him.

When he greeted her, she smiled slightly, she knew he wasn't thrilled with her being around him, she knew he blamed her of why him and his mother were trapped here. But for the time being, what would it hurt to try and get along? When he asked what did she want with him today, she pranced in place and bipped her head up and down. "Well Poe, I was thinking, since we are the only two foals in these god forsaken lands, Why don't we go cause some trouble" she said swishing her fuzzy banner against her flanks. "Why not make some fun out of the time your here?" she asked.
She hoped he would accept her offer, of her trying to be nice and civil for once, after all she was trying to think not like a dark horse at the moment, and it was driving her insane. But her boredom was making her do drastic things, and causing trouble was never fun by yourself.

What made things really bad about his situation was that he needed to try and get along with Devi. If he did anything wrong he could end up making their stay here a lot more uncomfortable. He was happy just staying away from her altogether but if she insisted on coming to him for things like this than he knew he would have to treat her with some amount of respect if he wanted to make things easier on his mother. Getting into trouble, however, was the last thing he wanted. Was that all that darks ever cared about? Was causing trouble? He felt an inward groan coming on but he held back as she spoke. At least she was being civilized, that was a nice change. He didn't know what she meant by causing trouble but he hoped it wouldn't involve her father because trouble for Ghostlock meant trouble for him and his mother. He didn't know what good could come of this but he didn't have the inclination to deny her some company either.
Optics watched as Devi danced in place bobbing her head. He hadn't even agreed and she was already getting excited, how.... cute? He shook his head clearing his mind of the thought. Cute was something that he refused to see her as. After all it was her and her father who was causing his mind such torment. He watched her for a moment auds flicking as she finished her speech. A soft snort fell from his breathers. Perhaps he could change her mind about the "trouble" in her sentence and change it to something else that would cause less drama for him and his mother. "Honestly." He stated in exasperation. "Is that all you can think to do for fun? What is so fun about causing trouble? Do you even realize the position you would put be in if I got into trouble right now? My mother and I are captives in your fathers lands and if I cause any trouble for your father we would be at his mercy.. Why can't you just want to go for a swim? Or race or something.... Doesn't that sound like more fun?" He never raised his voice. His aim was not to piss her off. He simply wanted to do something that wouldn't get him into trouble.
He couldn't afford to put him and his mother into a worse predicament than what they were already in. He sighed lightening the mood a little as he released some of his frustrations in the drawn out breath. "Well?" He asked as though waiting for her decision. Would she settle for something else? Or did she just want to cause a stink?

Devi's ears perked as he started to speak, they pinned back when he started to say him and his mother were Captives in her father's land. She tilted her head slightly her black orbs with hints of red studied the young colt. And when he spoke about not wanting to be at her fathers mercy her ears pinned back,. No trouble was not all that darks thought about. Devi's black swirls on her daggers began to dance about as she moved her hooves from side to side in a little dance bipping her head slightly. When Poe mentioned Swimming or racing she thought for a few moments. "Swimming?" she asked. "Racing? Those are ok until you get bored with them" she said with a sigh as well. The little filly was so bored, and tired of being the only young foal in these lands she was prone to agree with anything right now. "OK Race you to the pool" she said as she reared up spun around and took off.

He waited as she seemed to mull over whether or not she wanted to do something else. 'swimming?' his ears perked forward as she spoke 'racing? Those are fine until you get bored with them.' He frowned as she said this. What was so boring about swimming and racing? He didn't quite seem to comprehend the idea even as magnificent as his mind was. He shrugged the thought and continued to eye her wondering what was going through her mind. He knew what was going through his. He was curious as to whether or not, had they met under normal circumstances, if he would have ever been friends with Devi. Little did he know that a relationship between them may be forming despite his current distaste for her. It's not that he didn't like her he just didn't seem to like anything right now. In fact, I don't suppose he had ever felt so much dissatisfaction in his entire life, short a span of time as that was. He simply didn't see himself ever coming to accept his situation here. And whether or not it was her fault he couldn't help but know that she had taken a big part in their current standing. He couldn't be mad at her for being born, but he could still be frustrated that her birth had led them into this life style.
Her words snapped him back from the dark infrastructure of his mind. 'Ok, race you to the pool!" He didn't have time to respond before she wheeled about and took off running. His eyes widened slightly in surprise as she did so. He shook his mane and took off behind her. Naturally it would be easier for him to run faster than her since he was already bigger than her and had longer legs, but he kept things interesting by trailing behind her slightly so as not to hurt her confidence. A determined expression remained plastered upon his features as he ran behind her as though he was trying his darndest to catch up to her. He had to hide a small smile at how cute she looked while she was running. Again with the cuteness! He wanted to release a sigh of frustration at the thought. Why her? Why did she keep having to bring his mind to this point where he almost felt himself sliding away into her grasp?? It was obvious that she didn't appear to notice but even as he thought about her his footing slipped and for a moment his handsome stride faltered before he regained his balance and lurched forward once more. He couldn't understand what had deceived his mind into believing that taking an interest in their captor's daughter could possibly be a good idea. But it didn't matter, cause little did he know, he was already hooked.
Once again was he pulled out of his thoughts as a clear liquid puddle came into his view on the horizon. His first thoughts were not to the sparkling serenity of the setting rays of the sun on the face of the water, nor to the way that the tall blades of grass bent over the aquatic landscape as the wind gently blew on them. Not even to the way that the beautiful pool seemed to reflect ever so perfectly the fading light of the sky as it shot off hues of eerie pink and blue and purple. No. Gorgeous a site as it was he had only one thing on his mind. He had trailed behind Devi long enough and now it was time to catch up. He put on a sudden burst of speed, his young muscles rippling against the force of the wind as he leaped forward pulling on the last of his reserves of energy. Nares flared as they grasped for deeper breathes from the strain he was putting on his muscles. He could already feel the burning sensation of overuse of his legs setting into them like fire. He surged forward until he was level with Devi and slowed his strides to match hers momentarily before giving her a handsome wink and then leaping forwards once more til it was his nose that passed her, then a hoof, then an ear, until. SPLASH. The cool water rushed over him like so many waves crashing on the sandy shore.
His head emerged from the water as he shook out his mane and then looked for Devi. The first real smile in forever upon his face. Swimming? Racing? Who said they weren't fun??
