The sky was painted a dark black color as raging thunder clouds rolled across the plains of Helladius Lands. The wind howled and Lightning lit up the darkened skies. A heavily pregnant Black and white mare moved into the breeding lands. The wind whipped her mane against her neck. And even though the weather was cool Her body was streaked with sweat, the unicorn mare was in labor. It had been a long pregnancy the foal had been impatient to be born and today was finally the day. The mares eyes scanned the lands ahead of her making sure there were no dangers, and she kept her horn lowered in a defensive manner. A unicorn in labor could be a force to reckon with. Her green orbs glanced to the skies a few rain drops spotted her hide. She shook out her mane and looked around, she needed to find some sort of shelter for her and the baby. A contraction hit her and she winced and did a slight squeal, this was her first child.
Finally she spotted a cluster of willow trees, that would be perfect, she bent her neck as the wind picked up and the rain really started to come down. She trudged over to the willow trees and made it under them. She circled a couple of times then she lowered her swollen belly and body to the ground she was ready to push, She hoped Jackal was going to be here soon.

His stomach turned and knotted with worry as the storm worsened. He needed to find Raven and soon. His eyes watered as the wind tore at them. He could barely see past the rain and wind that pushed again the mass of his black body. Normally one would think that his bulk worked in his favor unfortunately today it was just being used against him as the wind threw him off balance. Footing was terrible but he continued to push his way through the storm, determined to meet the shelter of the trees. He was certain that he would find her there. On a day like this it was the only logical place to give birth. He heard a faint cry ahead of him and pushed forward with renewed strength and vigor. She was in his herd now, a part of his family, and he would protect that at all costs. His body leaped blind into the oncoming force of wind and rain, every tiny drop of water feeling like a small incision into his skin due to the strength of the force that drove it. He saw a blurry outline of trees on his horizon and his hope renewed. She must be there. He trudged onwards despite the discomfort that it caused him. The mud of the earth caked on his hooves and legs, each step becoming more heavy, weighing him down till it pained his muscles to move on. Still he continued.
By the time he reached the trees, his mane and tail were weighed down with moisture, his forelock matted against his visage. Mud covered him from his chest to the floor from where it had splattered against his body while he had continued to move through the rain. He shook his body with an effort that caused his fur to stand up straight giving him a wild and rugged appearance. He looked to be only a shell of his former self. His wide eyes looked about anxiously in search of Raven, it hadn't taken him long before he spotted the mare. She laid upon the floor, her swollen stomach bulging from the rest of her body, a sheer coat of sweat covering every inch of her. Despite his obvious exhaustion he quickened to her side. He stood over her protectively as she lied on the floor beneath the willow trees. He listened to her heavy breathing with concern. "It's alright Raven, I'm here now. Everything's going to be fine." He murmered gently, anxious for the birth of the child.

Raven heard his words over the storm howling outside, she pinned her ears back and laid her head down onto the ground as she pushed she closed her eyes in pain, she could feel the child coming, the hooves were already showing, Raven squealed and pushed again grunting, a little nose could be seen now. Raven opened her green orbs the emerald stone at the base of her horn sparkled. The wind howled and little drops of rain seeped in through the protection of the weeping willows.
After several more pushes out slid a little filly, Raven let out a sigh and righted herself, she was exhausted she got to her feet and turned around nosing the filly and she started to lick her. The little one was already trying to get to her feet. Once the foal was clean Raven stepped back to let Jackal see.
The filly hit the ground it was soft but also somewhat hard. Everything was blurry she blinked her orbs a couple of times and it cleared just in time to see her mother approaching her. She bipped her head and struggled to get to her feet. She already had a little stump where her horn was going to be. Her eyes were a peculiar color, they were green with blue pupils. As she turned her head to look around she saw the large stag and the small sapphire gem on the base of her small horn shimmered in the pale light.

He tried to maintain a calm composure as the mare went into labor and struggled to carry the young one into the world. He couldn't bring himself to look at her directly but always at the floor beside her studying on a piece of grass or a bug. He had seen animals in pain before but not like this. This was very different. He only wished he could somehow ease her pain but he knew that this was a pain she would have to bear alone. He watched helplessly as she struggled to push the child out of her body over and over again, unable to fathom the depth of what Raven must be going through. He felt nervous as she pushed again and again until finally the whole of the filly lay on the ground before him. His eyes were wide as he looked at the young girl. Even though the child was not his he felt an odd since of pride swell inside of him. Perhaps he was just proud to see his herd growing, or maybe it was that he felt honored to have been able to witness the youngling's birth.
He stepped aside as Raven stood to her hooves and began to clean the little filly until she finally finished and stepped aside so he could get a better view of her. He lowered his head in curiosity as his orbs peered down upon the tiny being before him. His warm breath blew on the small of the flicka's brow as he looked down his snout at her. He couldn't help but smile at her little odd colored eyes staring up at him. Without turning his attention from the little filly he said "She's beautiful Raven. What will you name her?" His voice was barely audible over the sound of rain drops hitting leaves overhead as it came out in a hushed whisper. Welcome to the world, little one. He thought silently.

Raven shifted her weight and glanced around as Jackal got to introduced to the filly, she thought about a name for the little one when he asked it. "I was thinking about Echos Return" she said her eyes smiled as she turned them back onto her daughter. She felt pride swell up in her as she watched the massive stallion with the little filly. She stepped back and lowered her head and nuzzled the Filly. "Welcome to this world Echo's Return" she said She raised her head as the filly made the first attempts to stand, after a few tries she finally stumbled to her feet and Raven beamed.
Echo watched the brute step forward and speak to her, her little ears perked forward at his words then she looked up as her mother nuzzled her and named her. She let out a tiny whicker she liked the name Echo. She attempted to stand and after a couple tries she stumbled to her feet and stood there her long legs trembling underneath her. She stood looking up at the two adults. "Hello Jackal" she said in a soft sweet voice She glanced around the weeping willow shelter, and listened to the storm outside.

He listened as Raven spoke the little ones name. His eyes watched the little filly with ever growing wonder as she spoke his name. His gaze never leaving her strangely colored orbs. Auds swiveled taking in the innocence of her voice. She was such a beautiful creature in his eyes. Young, pure, innocent and full of life. He couldn't help but stare. "Hello little Echo." He replied in just as sweet a voice as he could muster but it still sounded rough and in comparison to the soft sweet melody of the little one. He truly counted it an honor to be present at the birth of such a beautiful being.
